I’m Maryam Mills, the proud owner of Mills Counselling.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

My journey as a counsellor has been an extraordinary experience, and I am intrigued to see what I can achieve as a professional in this field. Before taking on the role of a counsellor, I spent a lot of time working with at-risk youth, most of which experienced trauma, and also have over ten years of entrepreneurial business experience.

However, I was inspired to take on counselling after witnessing how the care and support provided by professional counsellors helped my mother in her battle against cancer. After observing the power of mental wellbeing, I decided to change my career and become more involved with community services and counselling.

I believe in a holistic approach and understand that many of my clients' issues are intertwined with other people and areas of their lives, so I have sought to widen my educational experience to offer my clients the best potential outcomes. Currently, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I’m also certified in family mediation from the Justice Institute of BC and a certified Parenting Workshop Facilitator.

I really find it rewarding to see my clients doing better in their lives. For some, that means they no longer need my services, which is great news. For others, it means we have become partners in a long-term relationship where I support them as they cope with the challenges in their lives.

Working as an independent consellor allows me to maintain flexibility while helping clients in ways that are meaningful to them. When a client approaches me with a challenge, I follow a partnership approach to assure them that they are not alone in their struggles. At the same time, I create a caring environment where they receive respect and feel comfortable enough to express themselves.

By expressing genuine empathy and an honest desire to see others succeed in their lives, I have managed to help several clients achieve their goals and overcome stress and depression.

Inspiring others to work towards a better future is the most satisfying part of my job. Similarly, helping them find peace is what motivates me to give my best to my clients every day!

When I am not at work, I love staying active by engaging in a bit of skiing, hiking, and traveling. On a quiet day, I enjoy reading for pleasure and also to broaden my knowledge about human behavior.

Another project I like to contribute my time and resources to is cancer research. Knowing the challenges people face physically, emotionally, and financially when suffering from cancer, I feel that it is imperative to do our best to find a cure to defeat this disease.

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.

If you or someone you know could benefit from my expertise as a registered clinical counsellor in North Vancouver, BC, I invite you to get in touch. Please visit our website at www.millscounselling.ca.

Sincerely,

Maryam
