Family Mediation is an increasingly popular alternative for families looking to resolve conflict without the expense, long waits and rigid formality of the court system. When relationships break down, issues such as spousal support, parenting time, child support and division of matrimonial property can often make this very difficult time even more stressful, and the thought of airing out family issues in the public court system can add an extra layer of stress. A trained family mediator can help the interests of both parties be heard in a less confrontational and less restricted process that still affords the legal protections of the court system.
My training at the Justice Institute of BC in Family Mediation accompanied with my education and work as a Registered Clinical Counsellor has served me well in helping families to make important decisions and move on in a positive way from their unfortunate situations. As in the court system, the interests of the child(ren) are always paramount and my unique background can help both parties to understand the importance of using a process that reaches agreement based on the child's interests in a way that the courts may not. I help clients overcome trauma from childhood everyday in my practice as a counsellor, and can help parents rise above disagreements to do the right thing for their child's future.
